The Part-Time Engagement Work Team drafted the following Working Theory, Vision Statement, and Goals for review.
Working theory:
Positive student learning outcomes result when supported, engaged part-time faculty and Valencia College are mutually invested in each other.
Vision statement (Updated):
Valencia College is an engaged, collegial community of diverse professionals dedicated to the best possible student learning
Goals (New):
- Part-time faculty compensation will be reviewed and aligned to professional development and curricular/co-curricular responsibilities
- Part-time faculty will be developed both in the essential competencies of a Valencia educator and their respective teaching discipline
- Valencia will create a new on-boarding, engagement, and evaluation process for new part-time faculty
- Part-time faculty will have enhanced opportunities for impact on student learning
I thought this group had widened its focus from part-time faculty to all part-time employees, but the working theory references only faculty.
I thought so too. I will share this with the facilitators.
I double checked with the co-facilitators and the team has determined that they will focus on part-time faculty.
Thanks for checking!
Something I believe will emerge from this process is that the compensation and roles of all employees needs to be part of the overall plan. An integrated cohesive strategic plan means one segment affects the other….we are all connected in this process and when we are all on board it will diminish polarization and fragmentation between full time staff, part time staff (all levels) full time faculty and part time faculty.
I would like to submit slightly altered, simpler versions (leaving out a few unnecessary words, moving clauses):
Working Theory
Through mutual investment, Valencia College supports and engages part-time faculty resulting in positive student learning outcomes.
Vision Statement
By investing in part-time faculty, Valencia College will be an engaged, collegial community of professionals dedicated to the best possible student learning outcomes.
Thank you.
Agree with Teresa!
