Blackboard Migration Update & Course Copy Bug (Tues. 10/12)

Yesterday afternoon we held a conference call with Blackboard product engineers and executives in regards to the problems we are encountering with course copies in the new Blackboard 9.1 Learn system.  During the call Blackboard verified that this bug emerged after the start of fall courses and they have a team of experts working on a solution to this bug as their top priority.

Valencia has been promised access to these patches as soon as they are publically available.  We were told that a series of software patches will be made available in the next couple of weeks which are anticipated to resolve issues with this bug.

Blackboard also continues to work on a systemic software solution to other outstanding bugs through the release of Service Pack 3 which is anticipated to be released on November 30, 2010 followed by another full Service Pack 4 release by late December.  Blackboard has offered to participate in weekly calls to help us work through the current bugs and implement changes to our system.

So where does that leave us?

Unfortunately we are in a wait and see pattern for now.  Provided the patches being released in the next couple of weeks resolves the course copy bug, everything will be fine and transition from Fall 2010 to Spring 2011 term should go relatively smoothly.  In the meantime, our team will create contingency plans to help transition faculty through the copy process until the final patch is available.

For those of you needing to submit Bookstore orders that require students to purchase access codes for their publisher content, you may want to consider staying in WebCT for Spring term.  For those of you who just use instructor materials provided by textbook publishers, we still have time to make those requests.
